Fusion of Raw and TCM
I follow Pennsylvania Food Handling Safety Guidelines and dehydrate all placentas at 160 degrees F. The capsule yield with this method is slightly bigger, and there is a stronger energy boost. It may cause an upset stomach in those who are not used to consuming raw foods. This method is considered better for those who have a prior history of depression. I prefer this methos because I truly believe that placenta is perfect the way it is and does not require any spices and herbs. And yet this is not fully raw methood so there is a little less "energy" which is perfect for decreasing the chance of anxiety as a side effect.
Traditional Chinese Method (Steamed)
Your placenta is steamed (optionally with lemon and/or ginger ( If you are allergic to ginger, please advise me ahead of time). It takes less time to dehydrate using this method, but the capsule yield is slightly smaller. The energy boost is mild, but long-lasting with a warming "yang" effect (according to Traditional Chinese Method principles). The capsules may be easier to digest since the placenta was lightly cooked. The Steamed method is preferred for those with a history of anxiety or insomnia. The Steamed method can be done at any time, as long as the placenta has been stored properly in the fridge or freezer.
Placenta Tincture - A small piece of placenta is placed in a dropper bottle and filled with high-proof vodka. Your tincture is fully ready in 6 weeks and good for years. It can be used later on for PMS, menopausal symptoms, and times of emotional distress, illness or low energy. Remember than tinctures have long shelf life when stored properly.
